The origin of York County, Division One finds it's roots in Dauphin County, Division One based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Richard Newcomb, Tom O'Hara, and George O'Brien, members of Dauphin Co., all thought about organizing a division in their hometown of Hanover. As more men from York and Adams counties joined the Harrisburg group, it became clear that a division in York County could exist on it's own. And the much shorter commute to meetings and events would be appreciated by all.

Richard and Tom started the inquiry to form a division in York County. In the summer of 1995, an application was made to the National and State A.O.H. boards for a charter. The application was granted in the fall of 1995.

The first meeting of the newly formed division took place on Sunday, October 29th, 1995. Initiation of the first members and election of Division Officers was held. On November 1st, All Saints Day, the charter was officially signed and the division became official.

There were 16 original members, with all being added to the charter. A debate was held in later meetings in which it was decided that all men who became members in the first year would be added to the original charter.
